Tragic loss of an ancient heritage site

Ancient Carnac menhirs in Brittany, France. It was considered to be another Stonehenge, a site of great prehistoric mystique, beauty and amazement. It's with sadness I post about this, and also much anger, that this ancient heritage has been destroyed by greedy people, so that they can build a DIY store nearby. About 38 megalithic stones were bulldozed on the Chemin de Morbihan. An amateur archaeologist, Christian Obeltz, found this out one day and told all on his blog entry, which was then reported by local press. Carnac town hall approved the development of the DIY store in the sacred area. It's been known that Carnac megaliths were a listed site on Atlas des Patromines, a source that confirms to the country's ancient valued protected sites. The menhirs were small stones but they were made between 5480 and 5380 BCE. What's even more shocking is that the town hall's officials and the mayor Olivier Lepick deny any wrongdoing and claim the site "wasn't important enough"! Absolutely disgusting and contemptuous view from the mayor, developers and town hall officials about this ancient site.
